Almost art

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

i took this photo whilst walking down sea road yesterday, it was rainy and there were lots of nice lights everywhere.
i did a kind of unintentional pan with the car but im not complaining.
ive started to enjoy taking photos in low light without a tripod, at shutter speeds that you should probably use in conjunction with a tripod - it gives a kind of weird blurry painterly effect that i like.

new years eve soon
i wont be here, this time, next year.

Christmas 2010

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

so this is christmas and that is my little brother pulling the wrapping paper from one of his many presents he received this morning.
its been a really nice day, we stayed inside for pretty much all of it, had lunch, heard my grandads hilarious ficticious war stories, did presents and i went the whole day without slicing my self open with anything ( last year i unintentionally managed to insert a craft knife underneath my thumb nail and subsequently faint ).

all in all its been good, i got some cool books, more cool books and an abundance of grey clothing.

merry christmas erryone!

Near dark

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

we got home ok.

yesterday i went to a christening and then to a fancy dress christmas party.
both were good, one was a slightly more drunken occasion than the other.
i took this photo of joe as we were walking up the road to our house in the early hours of this morning, its horrible and grainy and stuff but theres something i like about it, the blurryness makes it look almost like a painting.

also im having to transfer, edit and upload images using my mums outdated, no spec toshiba laptop where the only image editing programs are HP image zone and MS paint...
a painfull process to say the least

i'll do my best to keep posting whilst im away from base.

Kickflip

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

i woke up today and it was snowing again, a lot.
i along with the rest of my housemates are supposed to be going home today but im not sure what the trains are going to do, i hope they work.
just took this picture of phil playing with a fingerboard on my window ledge as is snows outside.

ive also been toying with the idea of taking and uploading a new photo everyday next year, i think it could be interesting...
if enough people convince me that its a good idea this new years eve, then i will.

taken on the bus today on the way into central with phil to buy christmas presents.
i found what i needed for other people and also came across the new hardback version of mark haddons - ' the curious incident of the dog in the night time', i love that book.
should be heading home on saturday, as long as i dont get snowed in or anything like that.

A cator street kinda' christmas

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

last night the house celebrated its very first christmas.
we had a proper christmas dinner, secret santa presents, decorations, games, wine and everything.

in other news i have now finished my first term at university, that went quick.
im looking forward to going home and spending proper christmas with my other family.

The battle of westminster

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens, flash catch

today i went to ANOTHER student protest and took pictures.
it was good fun, my lens hood got snapped off, i nearly got trampled by a horse and narrowly avoided being crushed to death.
the protesters set fire to a lot of stuff and chucked bits of breeze block at the police.
me, lauren, laurie and josh managed to escape with two press cards between the four of us, it was awesome and lucky.

also, the now definitely official post riot/protest mcdonalds tasted better than ever.

Tron legacy première

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

this afternoon i went along to take photos at the première of the new tron film although it wasnt really out of choice, as part of my course i have to complete several 'doorstepping' assignments and submit the photos this week.
it was very cold and busy and i felt like i was taking the same photos as everyone else, its hard to produce original images when the people you're photographing always pull the same faces and you're stuck in the same spot for 3 agonising hours.
the practice of scrambling to get pictures of celebrities also feels kind of paparazzi esque, and this makes me uncomfortable, i mean, i know some people enjoy it and all but i'd much rather be in the middle of a riot than lurking outside some poor bastards front door for hours on end...

anyway i got some photos, and went home.

Snowball fight

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens

the other day it snowed ALOT.
so at around 1am we decided to have a snowball fight in the garden, it was awesome and cold and my camera got very wet and joe got snow in his ear.
unfortunately most of the snow has now melted into a kind of sludgy water and that in turn has frozen again to form treacherous ice.

i have yet to slip but im sure that when i do, it will be spectacular.

Movember

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens, sigma flash

this month the dwellers of 171 have been taking part in movember - the month where you grow a moustache, however november is over and finally the itchy lips have subsided and the sink is looking hairier than ever...

in unrelated news, its like a christmas card outside my house.

Winter in SE15

canon eos 40d, tokina 12-24mm lens, tripod, plastic bag and elastic band

last night i braved peckham at midnight to get some wintry photos of the snow.
it was seriously cold and i nearly broke my neck on the death trap that the stairs leading up our house have become.
today i woke up late, handed my news story in, got cold, ate a lot of bread, got warm and got a snowball chucked at me by some kids.

Thom and phil in tesco

sony ericsson elm, no flash

i took this in tesco the other day during my houses nightly pilgrimage there to buy crumpets and melty chocolate puddings and of course bread, we never have enough of that.
i think this is the first phone photo ive ever uploaded to this blog and i must say im surprised by the quality and auto exposure and everything, might start to use it a bit more.

i'm not sure who said this, but i heard it sometime ago and its true - you can have as much flashy big expensive camera equipment as you like, but really the best camera in the world is the one you have with you.

something along those lines anyway...
